CRAFT PAPERMAKING IN THE HEART OF SICILY
We make paper and many custom-made crafts: we decided to rely on the wisdom of craft techniques to make them, with the aim of making them current and affordable for everyone.
We are twin brothers who founded an artisan paper mill in the heart of Sicily. Our dream? To work and live in our homeland with our own innovative project.
100% cotton paper. Using the Fabriano method, which we have learnt through intensive professional training, we strive every day to produce quality artefacts with attention to detail.
Visits and workshops
Educational visits and workshops
We strongly believe in passing on knowledge,
especially to the younger generations: this is why we open our workshop to schools of all levels for educational visits and workshops.
During the visit, participants will be able to see all the stages of handmade paper production, from the creation of the sheet in the vat to its drying.
With the educational workshop, in addition to the activities already described, you can try your hand at papermaking
by creating your own sheet of paper.
Visits and workshops are also available for individuals or groups.

Upon request, Cartiera Crisa participates in events, fairs, and medieval reenactments to demonstrate the traditional craft of handmade paper production dating back to the 13th century.

Crisa on TV
We have been guests on the following TV programmes, telling our story and our craft.
How did we choose the name of our company?
Crisa is the river goddess of the ancient river that flows near Leonforte.
From the Greek Krysòs, golden, the river has always been a source of fertility and wealth for the whole valley. The Arabs gave it the name Dittaino, a river that flows through the Golden Valley because of the colour of the wheat that grows there in abundance.
The main ingredient for making paper is water, and we thought there could be no better link between our activity and the land on which it is grafted.
But the Crisa River is also a symbol and motif of fertility, so we chose it also as a reminder of productivity and abundance, a good fortune that we hope will remain with us throughout the years.
What does our brand stand for?
The graphic design echoes the back structure of a wooden frame used in the production of handmade paper. The wording underneath clarifies the identity of our paper mill: exclusively handmade paper production.
